The most important thing when driving is to be alert. Don’t drive if you are feeling sleepy. Taking the eyes off the road is a big no. Switch off mobile phones or other gadgets that could distract you while driving. Plan the route with ample time to reach the destination so that you don’t have to rush or panic that you’d be late for an important appointment. Avoid going too fast. Speeding and tailgating is highly discouraged. Try to make it a habit to wear the seat belt.

A highway speed of 65 miles per hour may be safe in dry weather, but an invitation for trouble on snow and ice. Snow and ice make stopping distances much longer, so keep your seat belt buckled and leave more distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead. Bridge decks and shady spots can be icy when other areas are not. Remember to avoid sudden stops and quick direction changes.
