Jhon is a
18 years old young. He works at burger king, and he goes to college 3 days a week…since he's been going to college, his check’s been between $250-300 usually.
He drives almost an hour to college and he backs home….so he's doing that 3 days a week adds up, especially with the price of gas right now (even though it has gone down, but still not near enough) he thinks.
He has a truck… he thinks it’s a 200 chevy truck.. "I don't know the exact model lol. It belongs to my grandma, actually. And somebody already put a huge dent in it while I was parked @ work the other day" he says.. so he already wanted to get a car of his own so he doesn't risk anything else happening to her truck lol. Also because he's like to has his own vehicle…preferably a car because he says there’s not very much room in his truck (no back seat).
So, his question is…
what are some good cars that aren’t extremely expensive and get good gas mileage? In the Expensivecars.ca forum, this are the answer he got:
Winnfield III :From the situation that you describe, it appears that you are
looking for a used car. Among 8+-year-old cars that are fuel efficient and reliable, there are only three to choose from: The
Toyota Corolla, The
Toyota Echo, and The
Honda Civic.
dvab : I think maybe an older
Honda Civic or an older
Toyota Corolla. Not unless you can manage a newer one but i guess not. I'm not sure about american cars or korean cars, as the reliability on the
Hondas and
Toyotas may be better thus making it cheaper for you repair wise.
Anthony :From experience, a
1993-1997 Toyota corolla. I had one that i got in 1993 that gave me no problems until i sold it in 2004. I only had 96000 miles, and I regret selling it because it was one of the most reliable cars on the road.
idunno29 : If your looking for
cheap cars try
Ford Focus if you want domestic, south korean cars like kia are cheaper than their japanese counterparts, and
Volkswagen if your looking at german cars.
HotCajun: Look for
92 - 95 Hondas ,the “4 bangers” they are really
good on gas and cheap to fix.
WP Robot: Avoid the late 90’s and early 2000’s Honda Civics, they were really hit or miss those years whether they would even hit 100k miles before major repairs.
scottwhe: Well what you are going to want is either a
Toyota or a Honda. If I was you I would go with a
Honda Civic or CRX these are great on gas millage and not too hard on the wallet. I would purchase used and look around before you buy. When you find a car you like take it to a mechanic and let him know you are buying and want him to do a free estimate on what is wrong with the car.
