The joint venture between the Chinese Faw and Japanese Toyota disappeared last February from the list of the ten companies with more sales of vehicles in the country, according to data from the Association of Passenger Vehicles in China.
Official data from the Association of China Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM acronym in English) have not been submitted yet.
Toyota's sales in February, according to the company, increased 30% over the same month in 2009 to 45,400 vehicles. However, the company suffered a sharp decline in sales over January, when they reached the 72,000 cars. Already in January, the brand had a 16.3% drop in sales in the Chinese market compared with December 2009.
FAW Toyota sold 380,000 cars in 2009 (157,500 Toyota Corolla and 156,200 Toyota Camry, among others) and they will try to achieve the half million this year.
Last week the Japanese company president Akio Toyoda, came to Beijing to apologize to Chinese consumers for quality and technical problems of its cars in China. In that country in January they recalled more than 75,000 units in the RAV4 range, due to defects in the accelerator. Toyoda announced a reinforcement of quality controls and technology in China and after-sales service to provide technical assistance.
Toyota landed for first time in China in 1964 with the export of its Crown model, in 1980 opened its first representative office in Pekin and since 1995 has opened up several joint ventures with China's First Auto Work (FAW) Group Corporation.
